Master's Degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences
The Master's degree in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences allows students to gradually specialize in different areas of criminal law, while maintaining the generalist approach necessary for a comprehensive legal education. In the first year, fundamental criminal law subjects (special criminal law relating to persons, property, and business, criminal sanctions law, juvenile criminal law, etc.) or complementary subjects (international criminal law, criminology, history of criminal law, etc.) are taught alongside complementary legal subjects (procedural law, ECHR law, special contract law, private international law, etc.) to provide students with the best possible coverage of the programs covered in the main legal and judicial competitive examinations and exams. In the second year, the various disciplines of criminal law are studied in greater depth and with increased practical application. Specialization thus continues, while promoting the acquisition of technical knowledge in areas at the frontier of law and science.
The program provides students with all the prerequisites they need to sit exams or competitive examinations for entry into the judiciary, the bar, and various professions in the police, gendarmerie, prison administration, and youth protection, among others. It also allows students who wish to pursue an academic career to gain initial research experience through the writing of a thesis. To this end, the program combines traditional exercises (legal essays, text commentary, practical cases, etc.) with professional-oriented work (study of legal files, preparation of documentary reviews or reports, oral presentations, participation in mock trials). The emphasis is on interaction with the professional world in order to enable students to prepare as well as possible for their future careers. The two years of the master's program also aim to ensure continuity in the learning of a modern foreign language in order to provide students with a satisfactory level of legal English.
