We recommend that exchange students enrolled at the undergraduate level at their home university prioritize courses offered in the first two years of study (first and second years of the bachelor’s program), due to the prerequisites and heavy course load of the third year of the bachelor’s program and the first year of the master’s program.
Students must take at least two courses in the Faculty of Law. Furthermore, it is not recommended to take more than two courses in another department of UGA (outside the Faculty of Law) due to scheduling conflicts. This does not apply to physical education courses or French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses.
Each course selected is worth
ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System).
You must earn a maximum of 30 ECTS credits per semester and 60 ECTS credits per academic year.
The number of ECTS credits must be determined with your home university.
Could I take French as a Foreign Language (FLE) classes?
French courses are offered by the CUEF (University Center for French Studies) to all international students (exchange and dual-degree students).
These courses are free and earn academic credit (ECTS).
The courses are offered in various formats:
- Intensive courses: These are held during orientation week, which takes place in late August–early September. They are organized into 4-hour sessions per day (from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM) over 5 days.
- Extensive courses: These are held over the course of a semester. They are organized into 2-hour sessions (in the evening) once a week.
Attendance at all classes is mandatory.
As soon as you are admitted, the International Relations Office will send you information about FLE, and then the CUEF will send you a link to a language test. This test will determine your level and allow us to assign you to an appropriate class.
Could I play a sport?
You can participate in a sport either as part of your academic program or as a recreational activity:
- If the sport is included in your study contract, it will be graded and you will earn 3 ECTS credits.
- If you participate in sports as a leisure activity, it will not be graded and will not appear in your course selection; consequently, no ECTS credits will be awarded.
Detailed information is available on the SUAPS website.
All information regarding sports registration will be provided to you by the International Relations Office after you enroll at UGA.
Can I earn a degree from the Grenoble Law School in addition to a degree from my home university?
Students coming
on a simple exchange program to study for a semester or a year in Grenoble must select courses totaling the number of credits (ECTS) required by their home university to fulfill their degree requirements.
However,
the Faculty of Law offers students coming on a simple exchange program for a full year the option to enroll in one of two university diplomas compatible with their exchange program. The University Diploma (DU) is a degree prepared at the University, but unlike bachelor’s and master’s degrees, it is not a national degree.
If the student successfully completes the year, they will receive a University Diploma from the Grenoble Faculty of Law. The curriculum for each university diploma includes required and elective courses.
