Frequently asked questions
In which year of study can I participate in an exchange program at a partner university?
The Faculty of Law offers its students the opportunity to study abroad during
the second semester of their third year of the Bachelor's degree in Law (students studying Law-Languages and Law-Economics and Management are not eligible) or during
the first year of their Master's degree (one semester or a full year).
The list of partner universities is available on
this page and on MOODLE - International Relations Center (section RI > General Information > International Mobility in Law).
Students enrolled in the Master's in International Law or European Law can participate in a mobility program during
the second semester of their second year of the Master's program.
The destinations offered are:
In International Law: Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium (in French); University of Padua, Italy (in English and Italian); Kobe University, Japan (in English).
In European Law: Global Studies Institute, University of Geneva, Switzerland (in English); University of Antwerp, Belgium (in English).
Am I eligible for mobility grants?
There are several funding options available to help you cover your expenses during your international mobility as part of an exchange program.
Scholarships are paid after the start of the stay and do not cover all mobility-related expenses, so it is important to budget for your mobility in advance (choice of destination, cost of living, etc.).
You can find more information on the
UGA website.
For dual degree mobility with the Europa-Institut in the Master's in European Law, you will receive a €3,500 scholarship from the Franco-German University.
When should you apply for an international mobility program?
The application campaign for mobility in L3 and M1 takes place one year before the desired mobility (October of year N-1). To apply for mobility, you must be enrolled at UGA in the year of your application. Applications are made online via your LEO student intranet.
For mobility in L3, you must apply in October of your L2 year.
For mobility in M1, you must apply in October of your L3 year.
For mobility in M2 (M2 DI and M2 DE), you must apply in September of your M2 year.
What documents are required for the application?
The application file must include the following documents:
1. A CV in French
2. A cover letter in French summarizing your entire mobility project
3. A provisional course proposal for each university requested, validated by the Vice-Dean in charge of IR
4. A budget for each city requested
5. The official results (or proof of registration) of the language tests (TOEFL/IELTS/CLES/SELF) required for each destination (you can submit proof of registration when you apply and send us the results in early January)
6. All your transcripts since high school (including high school exam results)
If applicable:
7. MDPH recognition and study plan (PAEH)

You can find the materials you need to prepare your application on MOODLE - International Relations Center and the
UGA website.
The UGA Mobility Center regularly organizes various workshops to help you prepare your application.
What are the selection criteria?
1. Academic level for destinations outside Europe and the United Kingdom
2. Language level for all non-French-speaking destinations
3. Consistency of the mobility project, well-thought-out project
4. Feasibility of the project (independence and budget)
What level of language proficiency do I need to have in order to participate in a mobility program?
The language level required depends on each partner university. In general, the required levels are B1 or B2 in the language of instruction. To study in English, the level most commonly required is B2.
Information about language requirements and the tests required is available for each partner university on MOODLE - International Relations Center (for European destinations) and on the UGA website (
interactive map) for destinations outside Europe.
How does the selection process work?
The selection process is as follows:
1. Mid-January: for departures outside Europe ( selection is based on academic results from L1 and L2).
2. Early March: for departures within Europe (selection is based on academic results from L1 and S3 for departures in L3; on academic results from L1, L2, and S5. Students who have not validated their last semester will not be selected for mobility).
If I apply for mobility in a Master's program, how does the selection process work?
Your application for the Master's program is reviewed at the same time as your mobility application, i.e. in January for destinations outside Europe and in March for European destinations. Students may apply for a maximum of four Master's programs. If the student is not accepted into any Master's program, their mobility application is canceled.
What degree will I receive after the mobility program?
If you participate in a traditional exchange program, in L3 or M1, and earn all the required ECTS credits, you will receive the UGA degree for which you are enrolled in the year of exchange.
If you participate in a dual Master's degree program and earn all the required ECTS credits, you will receive both the UGA degree and the degree from the partner university. Find out more about double degrees on
this page.
Do I have to pay the registration fees to the partner university during the exchange year?
If you are participating in a traditional exchange or dual degree program with the University of Sherbrooke or the Free University of Brussels, you will only pay registration fees to UGA.
If you are participating in a dual degree program with the Europa-Institut at Saarland University, you will have to pay registration fees to that university but will be exempt from paying registration fees to UGA.
