The Legal Clinic for Civil Liberties at the Faculty of Law ofUniversité Grenoble Alpes
The Legal Clinic for Civil Liberties was launched in January 2018, thanks to support from the Initiative d'Excellence (Idex) Univ. Grenoble Alpes, under the leadership and coordination of Professor Anca Ailincai. It is now financially and administratively supported by the Faculty of Law. It is both an educational and social initiative. From an educational perspective, the project aims to promote the professional success of students by consolidating their training through innovative and professionalizing teaching methods (working on real cases with a view to developing appropriate legal diagnoses). From a social perspective, the clinic contributes to individuals' access to justice, particularly in the Grenoble metropolitan area, with a view to democratizing legal knowledge and facilitating access to justice. The clinic thus helps to place the University at the heart of the city, encouraging students to put their knowledge at the service of people in difficulty, while forging close links with various local actors, elected officials, and professionals in the legal and social fields.
To implement the Legal Clinic, partnerships have been established with several local authorities and organizations, including Grenoble Alpes Metropole, the City of Grenoble, the Human Rights Institute (IDH) of the Grenoble Bar Association, the Alliance of Lawyers for Human Rights (AADH), and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
Commitment of the Legal Clinic for Civil Liberties to the legal consultation service on discrimination run by Grenoble Alpes Metropole
The Equality - Fight Against Discrimination (LCD) mission of Grenoble Alpes Métropole coordinates the Métropole's LCD plan, which includes two measures aimed at combating discrimination through a collective and individual approach. These measures are implemented with the Equality partner network, which brings together around 40 stakeholders from the metropolitan area and has been working closely with the Defender of Rights since its inception in 2016. Among these stakeholders, those considered to be intermediaries for access to rights form the Monitoring and Action Unit (CVA), which aims to combat discrimination in public policies by identifying and guiding individuals and collectively addressing discrimination in the workplace. This mechanism is complemented by legal consultation, which aims to identify and address individual cases of discrimination through a partnership-based approach.
