On Wednesday, February 19, a theater-debate evening was held on the university campus (EST building), organized by the UGA Faculty of Law, the CRJ, the CERDAP2, and the UGA Department of Culture and Scientific Culture.
On this occasion, the play JUSTICE, written in 2018 by Samantha Markowik and directed by the Compagnie Les Jeanne, was performed by three actresses: Julie Fontana, Nathalie Gröll, and Agathe Petrini.
The idea of involving the Faculty of Law, through the Master's program in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences directed by Anne-Gaëlle Robert, came from the actresses who, having performed at the Grenoble Courthouse, realized the need to answer questions from the audience after the play.
The play challenges the audience with its multiple scenes depicting face-to-face encounters in the Criminal Court just before immediate appearances (expedited justice). The actresses take turns playing the roles of all the characters, which allows for a variety of perspectives: the defendant, the deputy public prosecutor, the police officer, the judge, the psychologist, etc. The audience can easily project themselves into the characters and identify with them, helping them to understand each person's reasoning.
This evening event also reflects a desire to open up the University and the judicial world to the outside world by offering an event for the general public. The debate gave spectators the opportunity to talk with representatives of the justice system who handle these immediate appearances: Catherine Lanza-Perret, President of the Grenoble Criminal Court; Federico Steinmann, lawyer at the Grenoble Bar; and Marianne Thirard, Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Grenoble Judicial Court.
With a full house and a rich debate at the end, the evening was a real success!
